James C. Conlin

Mr. Conlin embarked on his real estate career in 1966 as a real estate sales manager with Cooper Realty in Des Moines. In 1972, he served as the Vice President and Sales Manager for Iowa Realty and opened sales offices in the Des Moines area. In 1981, he started his own companies, the Conlin Companies, which were subsequently sold to First Realty in 1984. In 1986, he again started his own real estate companies, and formed Regency Management, the property management company, which was subsequently renamed Conlin Properties, Inc., in 2000. This company, headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, currently manages over 4,000 residential units in Iowa, as well as 250,000 square feet of commercial space. In addition, he started The Phoenix Group, Ltd., which was renamed Conlin Construction, also in 2000. This company has completed single-family land development, multi-family construction and commercial construction in excess of $50 million. Finally, in 1991, Mr. Conlin began development of affordable housing units with 24 units in southwest Des Moines, and has subsequently completed eighteen tax credit developments throughout Central Iowa. These Section 42 projects are developed through Conlin Development, constructed by Conlin Construction, and long-term management is completed by Conlin Properties, Inc. Mr. Conlin serves as General Partner for all projects. Mr. Conlin's personal real estate portfolio includes over 1,500 units of market rate and affordable housing units, as well as commercial and industrial properties. Dustin Van Zee is the Controller for Conlin Properties, Inc. Before joining the Conlin team in 2025, he gained extensive experience in accounting and finance across the healthcare and real estate industries, with a particular focus on senior living. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Dustin holds a master’s degree in Accounting. Born and raised in Des Moines, he is now raising his own family here. Outside of work, Dustin enjoys coaching youth sports, spending time with friends, and taking Disney vacations with his family. -

Mr. Conlin has been in the family business since the age of 13, starting as a Maintenance Technician and Groundskeeper. After high school, JB attended the University of Iowa and graduated with dual Bachelor of Business degrees in Finance and Marketing as well as minoring in Political Science. In addition to working at Conlin Properties with development and construction projects after college, JB joined Iowa Realty where he gained sales experience and knowledge of the local real estate market. In the early 2000s, he stepped into the Vice President role at Conlin Properties and shared management responsibilities for running all of the Conlin Companies. In 2011, JB decided to continue his education as a Hawkeye and pursue a graduate degree from the University of Iowa’s Tippie School of Management. He completed his Masters of Business Administration, graduating with Distinction in 2013 and shortly thereafter rejoined the management company. -

Beth Runles is Chief Operating Officer for Conlin Properties and directs the multi-family housing. She has over 25 years of experience with the Conlin organization and has a proven track record of achieving profitable results. Beth has extensive real estate and tax credit management experience with the professional designations of HCCP, NCP, and CAM and holds an active real estate license. She oversees the tax credit compliance department and insures that client properties adhere to strict IRS and Iowa Finance Authority’s reporting requirements. -
